Coaches’ Corner Recap

On June 28th, our weekly Coaches’ Corner featured Jennifer and Melissa chatting about test-taking strategies.

In this video, Melissa and Jennifer debunked the common myth that either you are a good test taker or you are not. They explained that effective test taking is actually a skill that can be learned.  Moreover, test taking is not a rote skill but something that requires adaptability and a familiarity with best test-taking practices. This is especially true of the various licensure exams in the behavioral health industry.

What this means for you is that if you’re preparing to become a licensed psychologist, counselor, social worker, or marriage and family therapist, you need to be familiar not only with the content of your field, but with the best test-taking practices. In this video our coaches explained what some of these best practices are, as well as addressing questions such as:

  • What are some techniques that can help with the statistic portion of the exams?
  • How can we build stamina, especially the type of stamina needed for a four-hour test?
  • How can we avoid the problem of second-guessing ourselves on the exam?
  • What does AATBS offer to help people learn and grow skilled in the best test-taking practices?
  • How can we set goals for ourselves that are realistic?

You can watch the entire video below. And don’t forget that our Coaches’ Corners happen every Wednesday at 12pm (PT). Grab some coffee and spend some time with us! For updates and links, keep an eye on the AATBS Exam Prep Facebook Group.
