Course Description: Strategic frameworks are empirically supported guidelines that can be successfully implemented to initiate and promote substance misuse prevention programs. The Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), published by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA), is a five-step approach for substance misuse prevention. These steps include assessment, capacity, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Additionally, the SPF emphasizes sustainability and cultural competence. Consideration of these factors further serves to assist clinicians and related community leaders with prevention plan development and implementation.

- Recognize the Strategic Prevention Framework and understand implementation considerations
- Understand the principle of sustainability within the context of the SPF framework
- Understand the principle of cultural competence and related opportunities for integration throughout the five-step SPF process
