This course is for:  Psychologists, Counselors, and LMFTs

Course Description: Stress is unavoidable and constitutes a complex process that is activated by physical or mental threats to an individual’s homeostasis. Untreated stress can lead to a lower quality of life, poorer socioeconomic status, and mental health difficulties. Stress management application development for wearable smart devices is a growing market.  Traditional (e.g. yoga and mindfulness) and mobile relaxation methods that use physiological signals were compared. Overall, yoga and traditional mindfulness performed slightly better than the mobile mindfulness application.

  1. Review the literature comparing yoga, mindfulness strategies, and mobile mindfulness applications
  2. Consider the statistical findings and overall study results
  3. Understand the conclusions and suggested areas for further research

  • Read and understand How to Relax in Stressful Situations: A Smart Stress Reduction System
  • Review the Course Description and Learning Objectives
  • Consider the presented stress reduction techniques coupled with mobile mindfulness applications
  • Work through the post-test questions; answer selections should be derived from the respective article
  • Return to the referenced article for any missed questions and/or to better understand effective relaxation techniques that can be used for mitigating stressful situations
