Course Description: Adults with ADHD have reported experiencing “hyperfocus”, a long-lasting, highly focused attention. Prior studies have not investigated the assessment of HF in adults with high ADHD symptomology. Two studies compared adults with and without ADHD utilizing a novel assessment tool, the “Adult Hyperfocus Questionnaire” to determine whether HF is positively related to ADHD symptoms. Higher ADHD symptomology was positively associated with higher HF overall, in relation to school, hobbies, and screen time, and dispositional HF, and when describing real-world scenarios. Given the high prevalence of HF in adults with ADHD, additional research is warranted to examine HF as a potentially separable feature of ADHD syndrome.
