Course Description: This paper includes a literature review and the first published meta-analysis to examine mindfulness-based therapy (MBT) for female sexual dysfunction (FSD). All sexual functioning and subjective sexual well-being outcomes exhibited significant improvements, and most effect sizes were moderate. Controlled effect sizes versus wait list were often of similar magnitude yet did not reach statistical significance for multiple outcome measures. There was some evidence of publication bias. Studies that provided individual therapy or required participants to be in romantic relationships tended to yield larger effect sizes on some outcomes. MBT may be effective for treating FSD. Limitations and future directions for research are discussed.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the main purpose of the study and the methods related to MBT for FSD.
