Course By: Tamara Avery, PsyD

Content By: Shapiro, C. J., MacDonell, K. W., & Moran, M. (2021). Providers self-efficacy in delivering evidence-based psychosocial interventions: A scoping review. Implementation Research & Practice, 2, 1-12. https://doi.org/10.1177/2633489520988258

Course Description: Provider self-efficacy influences the implementation of evidence-based mental health interventions. However, the ways provider self-efficacy is defined and measured in implementation research is not well understood. Common EBIs include those that target parenting behavior, child externalizing behaviors, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, substance use, and trauma. The purpose of the review was to add to current research by revealing the lack of agreed-upon definitions and the measure of provider self-efficacy related to the implementation of evidence-based interventions (EBIs) in addition to researching multiple types of providers and interventions. Future research should include a standardized definition and measurement of provider self-efficacy to advance practice and implementation research.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the purpose of the study and the methods related to evidence-based mental health interventions as examined in the article
  2. Analyze the data by exploring the statistical tests used in conjunction with the discussed findings
  3. Integrate the study limitations with the identified areas of future research

Course Outline:

  • Read and understand Provider self-efficacy in delivering evidence-based psychosocial interventions: A scoping review
  • Review the Course Description and Learning Objectives
  • Consider the factors related to EBIs coupled with the statistical findings from the accompanying article
  • Work through the post-test questions; keep in mind that answer selections should be derived from the respective article
  • Return to the referenced article for any missed questions and/or to better understand the relationship between provider self-efficacy and EBIs
