Course Description: Engaging in sexual contact with an ex-partner can have multiple consequences. Individuals experience adverse outcomes after a breakup, which leads to a decrease in self-esteem and an increase in emotional distress. Continued sexual contact is a behavior that both men and women report requesting of their ex. The current purpose of the study was to better understand post-breakup behavior. Researchers found that men are more likely than women to have felt better about themselves, while women tend to state they feel better about the relationship after breakup sex. Furthermore, most breakup sex appears to be motivated by three factors: relationship maintenance, hedonism, and ambivalence.
