Personalising management of behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia in nursing homes: Exploring the synergy of quantitative and qualitative data. BioMed Research International, 3920284. 1-16. https://doi.org/10.1155/2020/3920284

Course Description: Assessing personalized Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD) has been a challenge faced by researchers. Qualitative data is usually gathered by the care team, while assistive technologies collect quantitative data. The researchers in this study worked alongside the care team to develop a prototype for collecting and visualizing the quantitative and qualitative data towards personalized BPSD management. The development of this prototype yielded information about what types of data can be combined for personalized BPSD management in nursing homes and how that data can be implemented in the care team’s daily routine for analysis. The researchers have provided a starting point for further exploration on ways to develop and improve clients’ personalized treatments.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the purpose of the study and the four phases related to BPSD data
  2. Evaluate the data through exploring the two interface prototypes used in conjunction with the findings related to the BPSD’s personalize data
  3. Identify three study limitations for future research
