Changes are in place for those striving to become licensed mental health counselors! As of January 1st, 2024, the NBCC (CCE) has implemented a significant update to the retake policy for the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE).

Effective January 1st, 2024, the waiting period between failed examination attempts has been reduced from 90 days to 30 days. This change aims to provide candidates with more flexibility and opportunities to retake the exam, ultimately streamlining the path towards licensure for mental health counselors across the nation.

So, what does this mean for you?

1. Faster Turnaround Time:

With the waiting period now set at just 30 days, you'll have the chance to regroup, refocus, and dive back into your studies sooner than ever before. This accelerated timeline can help you maintain momentum and stay on track towards achieving your licensure goals.

2. Increased Flexibility:

Life happens, and sometimes unexpected challenges can derail your exam performance. Whether it's test anxiety, unforeseen personal commitments, or simply needing more time to prepare, the new retake policy offers greater flexibility to bounce back from setbacks and give it another shot sooner rather than later. With a shorter waiting period, you'll have the flexibility to adapt your study strategies and address any areas of weakness more efficiently.

3. Enhanced Motivation:

The prospect of a shorter waiting period can serve as a powerful motivator to stay focused and dedicated to your exam preparation. Knowing that you have the opportunity to retake the NCMHCE in just 30 days can fuel your determination to overcome challenges and perform your best on the exam. This added motivation can inspire you to put in the extra effort needed to succeed, ultimately increasing your chances of passing the exam on your next attempt.  Additionally, the shorter waiting period helps to ensure that candidates do not "forget" all they have studied, so the content is still fresh in their minds.
